Early 1900s farmhouse re-designed as industrial chic
The re-design of this turn-of-the century farmhouse near downtown Mill Valley developed from a dialogue between old and new, refined and raw. The dynamic loft-like interior is linked together by the distinctive, lightly refinished rock maple flooring reclaimed from a sewing machine factory in Chicago.
The clients wanted the house to retain a large front play yard for their children so the house was kept compact with a vibrant front elevation, rather than sprawling outward. As an executive at Remodelista.com, one of the clients drew from her knowledge of product sources to select a rich assembly of handmade tiles, industrial fixtures and relic classroom-style door hardware. |
